The Engineering Logic
 
Traditional foam steering wheels have a few hidden problems that most drivers don’t realize:
Finger slippage – Foam compresses and can rotate slightly around the rim, especially when your fingers sweat or apply uneven pressure.
Over-gripping – To compensate for slippage, drivers squeeze harder, which causes fatigue and reduces sensitivity.
Ambiguous feedback – Foam adds “give” between your fingers and the car’s response, blurring the line between what you do and what the car does.
Oversized wheels – Larger diameters were introduced as a workaround: when you press on foam, it feels easier to modulate steering. But this only increases steering throw and mechanical latency.
 
Think of foam deformation like a dragster tire launching in slow motion — exaggerated, but it shows how soft materials distort under force. That same distortion dulls your precision.

These variations are a normal characteristic of the handmade manufacturing process and have no impact on the wheel's fit, function, durability or performance.
